&#8220;Isolating in the Great Bear Rainforest&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\">Our last blog entry ended with our resupply stop at Shearwater, which is a marine supply centre right around the corner from Bella Bella.\u00a0 After stocking up with whatever groceries we could rustle up by phone order, we continued our journey north.\u00a0 We are now deep in the Great Bear Rainforest.\u00a0 As the name suggests, we have experienced great bears, great forests, and great rains\u2026.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/BC-Coast-map1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"20200526-004-HR-4\" src=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200526-004-HR-4_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"20200526-004-HR-4\" width=\"1028\" height=\"772\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">North and west of Bella Bella, we negotiated this narrow passage.\u00a0 Not many people come this way as you can only get through at high tide.\u00a0 But it\u2019s an interesting area and we wanted to explore\u2026\u00a0 Our route is shown in red.\u00a0 We anchored overnight and took the kayaks out the next day, first to have another look at the narrows, and then we paddled out around the outer islands.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200526-003-HR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"20200526-003-HR\" src=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200526-003-HR_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"20200526-003-HR\" width=\"1027\" height=\"772\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">This is the narrow part of the pass at low tide.\u00a0 We had come through here yesterday on the boat \u2013 now it was shallow enough to walk across!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200526-002-HR-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"20200603-027-HR-Edit\" src=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200603-027-HR-Edit_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"20200603-027-HR-Edit\" width=\"1028\" height=\"772\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">After weeks of isolated cruising, imagine our surprise when we met this crowd in a remote cove off the west side or Aristazabal Island.\u00a0 They turned out to be a group of geoduck fishers.\u00a0 Geoducks are harvested by divers using high pressure hoses to blast the clams out of the seabed.\u00a0 These guys told us that they are allowed to harvest this area every three years.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/riffelages.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200604-056-HR-Edit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;
